Circular economy

Circular economy with measurable added value

The circular economy is a central component of our service offering at Hempel Special Metals. With closed material cycles, we support our customers in keeping valuable raw materials in circulation, reducing CO₂ emissions and measurably improving their ESG and sustainability goals. Our focus is on recycling titanium, stainless steels and other special materials from the medical technology, watchmaking and high-tech industries.

Our recycling process

Circular economy in practice: titanium and stainless steel recycling

We collect high-quality, single-type titanium scrap/stainless steel and return it to the industrial production cycle in a controlled and traceable manner.

Our structured recycling process

  • Provision of Hempel boxes & drums to the customer
  • Collection of clean, sorted titanium scrap / stainless steel scrap
  • Collection by Hempel
  • Sorting, documentation and traceable interim storage
  • Recycling by certified smelting partners
  • Repurchase by Hempel and reuse of the material in customer production This ensures that valuable materials remain in circulation instead of being lost.

Environmental Benefits

Titanium and stainless steel recycling offers a significant environmental advantage over the use of primary metals and leads to a reduction in CO₂ emissions of up to 80%.

Recycling Chart

Another advantage is the return of pure materials for reuse. If scrap from identical alloys can be remelted, the recycling rate increases significantly: in the watch industry, the recycling rate has been increased from an average of 70% to over 90%, meaning that 90% of scrap is reused in the manufacture of semi-finished products for stainless steel watch cases. We organise the return via www.econoxx.com.

Your advantages at a glance

  • Reduction of CO₂ emissions
  • Better scrap prices
  • Conservation of primary raw materials
  • Closed material cycles
  • Traceable and certified processes
  • Support for your ESG strategy
